Diamond Jubilee Week

Our final week of term and our learning is based on celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and it culminates in our whole school street party!

We also have our visit to Whisby Outdoor Education Centre on 30th May to finish off our Mini-Beast topic.  We will be going on a Mini-Beast Hunt, pond dipping for Mini-Beasts and taking part in 'Wild Art' - using natural things to create a piece of art.  Please remember - no messy packed lunches, children need water bottles, sun hats and cream.  School uniform is required but the children can wear jeans and trainers.  Please remember to pack a coat - just in case!

There are 5 adults going with the children - Mrs Kearsley, Mr Atter, Mrs Richardson, M
rs Millar and Mrs Cooney.

Sunday 20 May 2012

Our final two weeks of term!  Mr Atter is now the class teacher until the end of the year with Mrs Marshall and Mrs Kearsley working with groups to support their learning.

We have a one week topic on using dictionaries and thesauruses in English.   Our Maths is based on 2D and 3D shape.  We will finish our excellence work in 'Living and Learning  like a champion' and will continue with our Mini-Beast topic which is proving to be a real favourite!  The children have created their own Mini-Beast in design and technology using pneumatics and they will finish and evaluate their creature this week.

This week is largely a 'finishing off' week because next week we celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in the children's learning plus we have a visit to Whisby outdoor education centre to see Mini-Beasts up and large!!!

Whole school testing week

This week is whole school testing week.  Our aim is to make the week as unstressful as possible.  All we want the children to do is to try their best and show us what they have learnt.

Class 2 will have Year 5s with us all week (except for Friday afternoon).  As well as testing we will get out and do some PE (weather permitting!) and the children have their own mini project to complete - on Mini-Beasts.  I don't want the normal mini-beast - I want them to think of something a bit different e.g. a praying mantis!

Monday 7 May 2012

In class 2 this week we begin our new unit of work in English - Dialogue and Plays.  As part of this we will be studying Roald Dahl's book 'The Twits'.  Children love this because it's full of disgusting habits!

Our maths will be multiplying by 10 and 100, problem solving, using inverses and doubling and halving.

We will continue with our Minibeast topic, our guided comprehension work, spellings and so on.  Good presentation will remain very important!

Next week is testing week for the whole school so in Class 2 we will have years 3, 4 and 5 for most of the week.

Class 2 new blog!

We've all got new blogs - watch this space!
